Indian javelin ace Neeraj Chopra, a two-time Olympic medallist, had a challenging outing at the Diamond League Final 2025 in Zurich, finishing second in a fiercely contested event. Despite a below-par performance by his lofty standards, Chopra displayed grit to register a best throw of 85.01m, falling short of Germany’s Julian Weber, who claimed top honours with a stunning 91.51m effort.

Chopra’s Struggle Through the Rounds
Neeraj began with a promising 84.35m in his opening attempt, but his momentum faltered as he followed up with an 82m throw. The pressure mounted midway through the competition, with Chopra committing three consecutive fouls – a rare sight for the usually composed Indian star.
It was only in the sixth and final round that he delivered his best performance of the day, managing 85.01m, which secured him the runner-up spot.
Weber’s Majestic Throw Dominates Zurich
Germany’s Julian Weber was the clear star of the evening, setting the tone early and eventually sealing victory with a colossal throw of 91.51m – the kind of mark that leaves little room for competition.
Meanwhile, Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago secured the third position with 84.95m, narrowly missing out on surpassing Chopra.
A Wake-Up Call Ahead of Bigger Challenges
While Chopra’s performance was not at his usual gold-standard level, it once again underlined his ability to fight back under pressure. With major international events lined up, including the World Championships and upcoming Olympic preparations, the Zurich result serves as both a reminder of the competition and a chance for course correction.
