Indian team’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and the vice-captain of the women’s team, Smriti Mandhana, were awarded the Best Indian International Cricketer Award in the male and Female categories, respectively, during the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Annual Awards.

Bumrah made an impact last year
Bumrah had an outstanding performance last year and played a key role in India’s title win in the T20 World Cup. He was recently named Player of the Series in the just-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Indian fast bowler took 32 wickets in a five-match Test series against Australia. Bumrah started the previous year with a brilliant performance in the home Test series against England. He then impressed in the T20 World Cup played in the USA and West Indies, where he took 15 wickets at an average of 8.26. India won the title by defeating South Africa in the final, with Bumrah’s contribution being crucial. He was also named Player of the Tournament for his excellent performance.

Mandhana’s stellar performance
28-year-old Mandhana was the highest run-scorer of 2024. She scored 743 runs in the 2024 calendar year and hit four ODI centuries, which is a record in women’s cricket. She also hit over 100 boundaries last year, including 95 fours and six sixes. This 28-year-old cricketer scored runs at an impressive average of 57.86 and a strike rate of 95.15 in ODIs. Mandhana started 2024 with a knock of 29 runs from 29 balls against Australia. After that, she had to wait for six months for the next ODI, but when she played against South Africa, she was in superb form.
