Mushfiqur Rahim suffered a fracture to the tip of his left index finger while keeping wickets on the first ODI against Afghanistan in Sharjah. This injury ruled him out of the remaining games in the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.
A member of the Bangladesh selection panel was quoted by Cricbuzz saying that Rahim will take at least four to six weeks to recover, thereby missing the two Test matches against the West Indies.
Rahim Might Be Back For The ODI Series
Rahim is ruled out for the Test series. The selector said he might return for the ODI series against the West Indies, which will follow the Tests. “We will have time to assess his recovery before making a final decision on his availability for the ODIs,” said the selector. Rahim is likely to join the team for the ODI leg, provided his recovery goes well, as he has already retired from T20 internationals.
No Spot For Rahim In This ODI Squad Yet
Bangladesh has yet to confirm Mushfiqur’s replacement in the ODI series that is ongoing against Afghanistan, though there have been claims that Litton Das may replace Rahim. But the selection panel stated that Liton is traveling to Dubai for personal reasons and is expected to join the squad once he fully recovers from a fever that he recently suffered.
Mushfiqur Rahim has been very important to Bangladesh, as he batted at four or five in the order. When Bangladesh played the first ODI against Afghanistan, Rahim batted at seven because he was injured and thus could not play for the remaining games in the series. Bangladesh will suffer a crushing blow from his absence as they face the West Indies.
Bangladesh Next Steps
Bangladesh will play three ODIs and three T20Is against the West Indies after the two Tests. The cricket fans of Bangladesh were dying to see Mushfiqur Rahim get fit quickly so that he could join the team in time for the ODIs.
