During a three-day practice match between Maharashtra and Mumbai at the MCA Stadium in Pune, Shaw got into a fiery on-field altercation with Musheer Khan, the younger brother of Sarfaraz Khan. The incident left players, officials, and fans stunned.
Shaw’s Blazing Ton Followed by Tense Moment
Shaw, who recently switched from Mumbai to Maharashtra, was playing against his former team for the first time. The match held added emotional weight, and Shaw delivered a powerful statement with the bat – scoring 181 runs off 220 balls. As Shaw walked back to the pavilion, Musheer Khan reportedly said “Thank you” in a sarcastic tone. That one word, seemingly harmless on the surface, didn’t sit well with Shaw. Teams Downplay the Incident
Later, both Maharashtra and Mumbai team members confirmed to Cricbuzz that Musheer’s comment was the main trigger for the verbal spat. Maharashtra captain Ankit Bawne brushed it off, saying:
“It’s a practice match. They are all former teammates. Such things happen. It’s all okay now, and there’s no issue.”
Shaw’s Form Speaks Louder Than Words
Despite the controversy, Shaw’s form remains the real talking point. The former India opener has been in brilliant touch in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament, using these practice games to gear up for the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2025–26 season.
In this match, opening the innings with Arshin Kulkarni, Shaw looked confident and composed. He brought up his century in just 140 balls, showing glimpses of the aggressive and fearless cricket he’s known for.
