A metropolitan magistrate court in Mumbai has instructed the city’s police to investigate allegations made by social media influencer Sapna Gill against cricketer Prithvi Shaw for molestation at an Andheri pub in 2023. Additional metropolitan magistrate SC Tayde, upon hearing Gill’s complaint, mandated the police to conduct an inquiry and furnish a report by June 19.
Gill filed a complaint seeking registration of an FIR under sections 354, 509, and 324 of the Indian Penal Code, accusing Shaw and his friend Ashish Yadav of assaulting her with a bat in February last year.

Despite initially approaching the airport police station in Andheri, Gill pursued legal action when her molestation complaint against the cricketer and his friend was not acknowledged. The police informed the court that CCTV footage from the pub revealed Gill and her friend Shobit Thakur in an inebriated state, dancing.
Thakur attempted to record Shaw with his mobile phone, but the cricketer intervened, preventing any video recordings. Upon review of the footage, the police asserted that there was no evidence of Shaw or others molesting Gill.
Witness statements from individuals present at the pub corroborated the police’s findings, indicating no inappropriate physical contact with Gill.
Furthermore, CCTV footage from the nearby Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower depicted Gill following Shaw’s car with a baseball bat in hand. The footage revealed her damaging the cricketer’s car windshield. These developments were shared with the court during the proceedings.
