The Women’s Premier League (WPL) wrapped up its much-anticipated mega auction on Thursday, November 27, marking only the second major reshuffle in the league’s history after the inaugural 2023 season. With three successful seasons behind it, the league entered a new chapter as all five franchises refreshed their squads.
Ahead of the auction, each team had the option to retain up to five players. Delhi Capitals – three-time finalists and two-time champions Mumbai Indians both maxed out their retention slots. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the 2024 champions, held on to four players, while Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz went in with the leanest cores, retaining just two and one player respectively.
What’s the dynamics for Mumbai Indians ?
Mumbai Indians Women wrapped up the WPL 2026 auction with a nearly complete squad, making smart use of their purse and retention strategy.
They entered the auction with a total purse of Rs 15 crore, of which Rs 9.25 crore had already been committed to player retentions. By the end of the bidding, MI spent the remaining Rs 5.75 crore to round out their squad.
The franchise now has 16 of its 18 slots filled, including all six overseas spots. Of their 16 players, 10 are Indian, giving them a strong domestic core heading into the new season.
With balance, depth, and experience across departments, Mumbai Indians Women look well-positioned for another strong WPL campaign.
