On Monday, the 42-year-old sparked speculation by hinting at a “new role” awaiting him in the upcoming season through a viral social media post, setting the rumor mills abuzz.
The former India captain, who guided the Chennai Super Kings to their fifth IPL title last season, did not specify the details about the new role, leaving everyone to speculate.
Last year, the 42-year-old often came out to bat towards the end of Chennai Super Kings’ innings. However, he has not yet clarified whether he will continue to captain CSK in IPL 2024.

During the post-match ceremony after winning the final last year, Dhoni was asked if he would retire on a high. In his characteristic style, the Ranchi dasher deflected the question, stating that it would be taking the easy way out. He further mentioned that he would attempt to return as CSK captain in the next season if his body permitted.
CSK is scheduled to kick off their tournament campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22. They will then face Gujarat Titans on March 26 in a rematch of last year’s IPL final before traveling to Delhi to play against Delhi Capitals on March 31. Their phase one tour will conclude with a match against SunRisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad.
