Rizwan's first challenge as full-time captain will be leading Pakistan in an away white-ball tour of Australia, starting November 4.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially appointed Mohammad Rizwan as the captain for the ODI and T20I formats. The announcement was made during a press conference led by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Agha Ali Salman has also been named vice-captain for both formats.

Squad Announcement for Upcoming Series

The PCB has unveiled the squads for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against Australia and Zimbabwe. Although a captain was not named at the time, the Board confirmed that Rizwan would take on the captaincy role. He replaces Babar Azam, who stepped down from the white-ball captaincy earlier this month.

Babar Azam’s Tenure and Departure

Babar Azam had previously been relieved of his captaincy for all three formats following Pakistan’s performance in the ODI World Cup 2023. He was appointed captain of the white-ball formats in May before resigning recently.

Upcoming Matches

Rizwan’s first challenge as full-time captain will be leading Pakistan in an away white-ball tour of Australia, starting November 4. The ODI series kicks off at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on November 4, with subsequent matches scheduled for November 8 and 10. The T20I series will begin on November 14.

After the series against Australia, Pakistan will head to Zimbabwe for three ODIs and three T20Is starting from November 24. While Rizwan is included in the ODI squad for Zimbabwe, he will not participate in the T20Is. It is expected that the newly appointed vice-captain, Salman Ali Agha, will lead the T20I team unless any last-minute changes occur.
