The former cricketer, Mithali Raj who captained the national team from 2004 to 2022 has been appointed as Andhra Pradesh’s mentor of Women’s Cricket Operations. Raj, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest female cricketers, has signed a three-year contract with the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA).
Career
Raj, who retired from international cricket in 2022, has long been an advocate for women’s sports and will bring her extensive knowledge and expertise to her new role with the ACA. Her primary responsibility will be to scout and nurture young talent across the state, with a focus on developing the next generation of women cricketers. The right-handed opening Batswoman and also an occasional right-arm leg break bowler is also the first player to score seven consecutive 50s in ODI matches. She made her debut in June 1999 against Ireland and is the only female cricketer to score more than 7,000 runs in Women’s One Day International matches.

Other Developments
Under the leadership of its new president, Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath, the ACA aims to set up three specialized academies for senior, junior, and women cricketers in Mulapadu, Vizianagaram, and Anantapur, respectively seems like the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) is willing to expand its reach to transform Andhra Pradesh into the cricket hub of the nation.
“These academies will offer advanced training to young athletes, preparing them for competitive levels”,
he said. Further, the ACA plans to train players at international standards, targeting improvements in Ranji Trophy and under-19 teams. The association has committed itself to the development of cricket in the state and this would certainly motivate the young talent of the state to enter into professional cricketing.
