The playoff race has officially concluded, and it’s Mumbai Indians who have grabbed the final spot with a commanding victory over Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in Match 63 of IPL 2025.
Chasing a target of 181, the Capitals crumbled under pressure and never looked in control. Their batting order failed to fire, falling to a disciplined and clinical MI bowling attack led by Mitchell Santner, who produced a match-winning performance on a dry and turning pitch.

With conditions offering turn even during the first innings, Mumbai sensed an opportunity—and Santner took full advantage. The left-arm spinner was nearly unplayable, weaving through the middle order after Delhi’s top three had already succumbed to the new ball.
Santner’s spell was nothing short of a masterclass in control and craft. He maintained tight lines, varied his pace smartly, and consistently hit the right areas. Backed by a well-rounded attack including Jasprit Bumrah and Deepak Chahar, MI never let the Capitals build momentum at any stage.
The surface at Wankhede proved to be drier and slower than usual, aiding the spinners and making strokeplay difficult. Interestingly, dew wasn’t a factor, which meant conditions remained consistent across both innings—something MI capitalized on by fielding an extra spinner in Santner.
Delhi’s hopes of chasing 181 fizzled quickly as they failed to adjust to the sluggish pitch. Sloppy shot selection and a lack of intent only made things easier for Mumbai, who looked sharp and hungry to book their place in the playoffs.
After a shaky start to their season, MI’s comeback has been nothing short of impressive. With this win, they not only claim the last playoff berth but also send a strong message to the other contenders. Their bowling depth, tactical acumen, and experience on pressure nights were all on display.
For Delhi, the loss marks the end of their campaign—a campaign that began with promise but fizzled out due to inconsistency and a lack of composure in crunch situations.

"It's been under covers for a couple of days. We would have liked to bowl as well, but it's okay. Every game is important from now onwards, we want to play our best cricket. The boys are very excited. (Best yet to come?) Yes, definitely, I don't think we've had a complete game. They (crowd) have been fantastic. They have backed us even when we weren't on a roll. One change, Mitch comes, back, Bosch misses out." Hardik Pandya

Delhi Capitals have won the toss and have opted to field. (On Axar) Really sick in the last two days. We'll miss him today. Playing a good team today, we are up for it. We haven't been at our best in the last 5-6 games. Everyday there's a new opportunity. Looks a bit dry, we're chasing. Axar is not there, Axar is two players and it's difficult to replace him. We'll see how it goes. (Faf du Plessis)
