Al Nassr’s Cristiano Ronaldo sparked controversy when he asserted that the Saudi Pro League surpassed the French Ligue. On Sunday, Ronaldo expressed his belief that the credibility of the Ballon d’Or and The Best awards was diminishing. It is noteworthy that both these accolades were secured by Ronaldo’s rival, Lionel Messi, in the latest edition.
Cristiano Breaks His Silence
“I think that, in a way these awards are losing credibility. It’s not to say that Messi didn’t deserve it, or Haaland or even Mbappe… but the numbers are there and the numbers don’t deceive. You have to consider the entire season,” Ronaldo said to Record.
“The numbers are facts. If you go back and see what happened at Manchester United and the national team, people actually considered me lost… But the truth is that I focused and had a great period at Al Nassr, that’s why I scored 54 goals,” he added.

Ronaldo, who did not find a place on the shortlist for either of the mentioned awards, additionally remarked that he doubted he would ever receive nominations for these honors due to his current involvement in the Saudi Pro League.
“We know how other organizations work. Obviously, I always think about my club and the national team first. The awards come after a good season for the club and the national team. I don’t think about it much, honestly. As you said, well, the 54 goals I scored [in 2023], there may be those who say it’s easier because I’m in Saudi Arabia,” he said.
“But football professionals know that it is difficult to score goals, whether in Saudi Arabia or in Italy, Spain or Portugal. A goal is a goal. In a way, I feel even more proud to have beaten Haaland, Mbappe and Kane,” 38-year-old Ronaldo added in his interview
