Manoj Tiwary, the recently retired cricketer, has unveiled more shocking details about his altercation with Gautam Gambhir during their time together at KKR in the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL). In a recent revelation, Tiwary disclosed that Gambhir had threatened him during the incident, shedding light on the intensity of the clash.
Gautam Gambhir – Incident at Arun Jaitley Stadium
The heated exchange took place during a match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium (formerly Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium). Tiwary, who had become an integral part of KKR since joining in 2010, faced a fallout with then-skipper Gambhir. Despite being a key player in KKR’s 2012 title-winning campaign, Tiwary’s association with the franchise turned sour after this altercation.
Gambhir’s Alleged Threats
Recounting the incident, Tiwary revealed Gambhir’s threatening words: “He told me, ‘You meet me outside after the match, I’ll see you. You are finished today.’ I feel he shouldn’t have said that. At Kotla, the journalists’ tent was inside the field. Everyone could hear those words.”
Gautam Gambhir – Regrets and Reflections
Expressing regret over the incident, Tiwary acknowledged that he usually maintains a good rapport with senior players. However, this particular clash tarnished his image. Despite his contributions to team decisions and positive relationships with other players, the fallout with Gambhir had lasting repercussions.
“I still regret that trouble with Gambhir. Because I am not the kind of person who quarrels with seniors, that incident could have been avoided. My relationship with seniors is very good. But for one incident, I got a bad name,” Tiwary stated.
Impact on Relationship
Reflecting on the fallout, Tiwary shared that, at one point, he and Gambhir had a positive relationship with discussions about team strategies. However, the fallout disrupted the camaraderie they once shared. Tiwary expressed disappointment about the incident souring a previously amicable relationship with Gambhir.
