Keshav Maharaj’s story isn’t just about cricket, it’s about family, culture, and holding on to what matters. He was born in Durban on February 7, 1990, to Atmanand and Kanchan Mala, both of Indian descent. The Maharajs trace their roots all the way back to Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh. His ancestors moved to South Africa in 1874, searching for a better life. Even now, that Indian influence runs deep at home.
Growing up in South Africa, Keshav never lost touch with his heritage. He celebrates Indian festivals, posts proudly about India, and keeps the traditions alive that his family brought with them. Even in his personal life, that connection stands strong, he’s married to an Indian woman, which only deepens his bond with his roots.
Maharaj Rattles Team India
When it comes to cricket, Maharaj keeps showing everyone why he’s one of the best left-arm orthodox spinners around. In a recent Test against India, he put on a clinic in patience and pressure. While Harmer was attacking from the other end, Maharaj tightened things up, kept the runs down, and grabbed those all-important wickets.
His 3 wickets, including the final one, Mohammed Siraj sealed a historic win for South Africa in India after 15 years. Those tight spells were just as important as the wickets themselves. It’s no wonder he’s seen as one of South Africa’s most dependable match-winners.
Who is Keshav Maharaj’s Wife?
Off the field, Keshav’s life is just as interesting. He’s married to Lerisha Munsamy, a talented Kathak dancer from Durban. The two got engaged on January 17, 2019, and had a beautiful, traditional Indian wedding on April 16, 2022.
Lerisha was born on April 30, 1991, and studied in Tamil Nadu before dedicating herself to dance. She’s trained professionally in Kathak and shares her art and a bit of her life with more than 47,000 followers on Instagram.

There’s a sweet story that fans love, when Keshav first introduced Lerisha to his family, she performed a Kathak dance for his mother’s birthday. It instantly won everyone over.
Their love story started through friends. After a few meetings, things just clicked. On their first real date, Lerisha was late and worried she’d blown it, but Keshav stayed calm and warm. That moment told her she was exactly where she needed to be.
