New Zealand batter Matin Guptil announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 38. Guptill’s career spanned around 14 years and played a total of 367 matches in his international career and smashed 23 international hundreds throughout his career. The latter holds the record for the highest individual score by a batter in an ODI World Cup. Guptill played an innings of 237* runs from 163 balls which included 24 fours and 11 sixes. This is also the highest individual by a Kiwi batter in ODI cricket.

Martin Guptill Announces Retirement From International Cricket
Martin Guptill retired from international cricket as New Zealand highest T20I run scorer. Guptill hit 3531 runs from 122 T20I matches which includes two centuries and 20 half centuries. Apart from his brilliant heroics in T20I cricket, Martin Guptil scored 7346 runs in ODI cricket and 2586 runs in Tests. The latter was among the best batters during the 2015-2016 period. He is the third-highest run-scorer for New Zealand in ODI cricket.

In an interview with New Zealand Cricket, Martin Guptil revealed his thoughts after international retirement. He said, “As a young kid it was always my dream to play for New Zealand and I feel incredibly lucky and proud to have played 367 games for my country.”
“I will forever cherish the memories made wearing the silver fern alongside a great group of guys. I want to say a huge thanks to all my team-mates and coaching staff over the years, in particular Mark O’Donnell who has coached me since the Under 19 level and been a source of ongoing support and wisdom over my career”, he added.
“A special thanks must also go to my manager Leanne McGoldrick – all of the work behind the scenes never went unnoticed and I’ll be forever appreciative of all your support. To my wife Laura and our beautiful children Harley and Teddy – thank-you. Thank you Laura for the sacrifices you have made for me and our family. You’ve been my biggest supporter, my rock and my counsel through all of the ups and downs that come with the game. I am eternally grateful”, he added
“Finally I’d like to thank all the cricket fans, here in NZ and around the world for all their support throughout the year”, he added.
Martin Guptill’s last appearance for New Zealand came in the year 2022.
