SA vs IND: The T20I series between India and South Africa will feature the return of Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee, as the duo had been on a conditioning break owing to shoulder and hip niggles for the two. The last time these players were in action was when they took part in the T20 World Cup back in June. The last time Coetzee was seen playing was when he represented South Africa during the T20I series against the West Indies back in May.

Other changes included Cricket South Africa’s structured breaks in play this season to try to get more work done on player conditioning during those periods. So Jansen and Coetzee being the first bowling trio to benefit from these developments, Lungi Ngidi who is now back in the Test side from Bangladesh but hasn’t bowled since an ODI in October, has come in next on the waiting list for a period to condition himself for some Test cricket at home versus Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The first thing is that he will not get a place in the T20I side for the India series as Kagiso Rabada is rested for this series with the Test series in mind.

This side is without some very key players for South Africa who feature in the shapes of Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, and Keshav Maharaj who were out of the white-ball touring party that recently went on its trip to the UAE. The regular captain has had Aiden Markram available for this series who has also opened for them here are his opening comrades.

The squad also comprises newcomers: all-rounders Mihlali Mpongwana and Andile Simelane, who together are the second-best wicket-takers in the last T20 Challenge, managing 12 wickets for themselves at a very handy average. Third-highest run-getter in the T20 Challenge, Donovan Ferreira, and Patrick Kruger have also been included in the tour.

Tabraiz Shamsi, in a conspicuous absence, had turned down a national contract last month. The Proteas, however, still have options to select him, preferring instead Maharaj and leg-spinner Nqabayomzi Peter to this side.

Lutho Sipamla will join the side for the third and fourth matches in the Highveld as part of the move to bolster their seam-bowling arsenal. Sipamla last played for South Africa in a Test match in 2022 and showed his worth with a career-best performance of 4 for 12 in the T20 Challenge final. He will not be part of the opening coastal matches in Durban and Gqeberha, which mark the start of the series on November 8.

South Africa T20I Squad: Aiden Markram, Ottneil Baartman, Gerald Coetzee, Donovan Ferreira, Reeza Hendricks, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Patrick Kruger, Keshav Maharaj, David Miller, Mihlali Mpongwana, Nqaba Peter, Ryan Rickelton, Andile Simelane, Lutho Sipamla, Tristan Stubbs.
