Only one visiting side in Etihad Stadium got away with a clean sheet in the previous 41 games. Inter showed their class and backline determination in the pitch. City had plenty of the ball searching for clear chances but Inter stayed strong.
The Serie A champions managed to restrict City’s goal machine, Erling Haaland, to just one real chance throughout the match comfortably. At the start of the first half, Haaland seemed promising but could not put the ball behind the nets. City with more ball possession, pressed high up and circulated the ball in Inter’s half but could not cut through the tight defensive backline.

City in the 70th minute managed to find themselves in a great position squared to Phil Foden just to be saved by Inter’s keeper Yann Sommer. A few minutes later Henrikh Mkhitaryan had City fans breathing a huge sigh of relief after a dangerous shot sailing across the bar. Guardiol, Foden and Gundogan all directed their deliveries to the target but not beyond Yann Sommer.
Gundagan came in again with a ruthless header in injury time from a dangerous cross from Doku sending it wide.
