Five days ahead of the Women’s League Cup final Man City shocked observers by releasing manager Gareth Taylor from his position. Gareth left Man City on Monday evening while their WLC final drew near so Nick Cushing took over manager duties through the rest of the season. The decision to let Gareth Taylor go occurs at a time when Man City actively participates in multiple competitions along with only two WSL clubs remaining in four tournaments. At present the team occupies the fourth league position with one point separating them from a place in the Champions League division and they have made it to the semi-finals of the FA Cup and the quarter-finals in European competitions.

Man City Women made the decision to dismiss head coach Gareth Taylor with League Cup final against Chelsea less than seven days away at Pride Park. WSL history indicates that Taylor served as manager since 2020 before securing FA Cup triumph in 2020 and League Cup victory in 2022. Man City decided to find a new head coach even though they occupied strong positions across various competitions including a spot in the European quarter-finals and FA Cup semi-finals. Man City’s Managing Director Charlotte O’Neill declared that the club excels in WSL competition while maintaining excellence in earning European qualification.
