New Delhi: A recent report claimed that Liverpool captain Jorden Henderson is on target of Al-Ettifaq’s manager Steven Gerrard ahead of the new season, starting from August 11.
Henderson on Gerrard’s target
After leaving his boyhood club Sunderland in 2011, Henderson played alongside Gerrard for three-and-a-half seasons. Both went on winning the 2012 EFL Cup during that period. After that the latter ended his illustrious career at Anfield to join Los Angeles Galaxy in January 2015.
After Gerrard’s departure, Henderson handed Liverpool’s armband and after that he went on lifting some more trophies. Despite interest from Gerrard and Al-Ettifaq, the Daily Mail claims that Henderson is against the idea of moving to Saudi Arabia this summer.
Al-Ettifaq is yet to contact Henderson
The report states that “exploratory talks” between representatives acting on behalf of Al-Ettifaq and Henderson have taken place, although ‘This Is Anfield’ claims that the Saudi club are yet to make contact with the Englishman.
Liverpool boss Klopp has already seen three midfielders depart the club this summer. James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and he will be keen to keep hold of Henderson, who still has two years remaining on his contract at Anfield.
Chelsea forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is also on the Saudi club’s radar. They could become the latest in a long line of high-profile Premier League players to join the Saudi Pro League this summer.
