Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has advised fans and experts to allow Rishabh Pant to play more matches freely without concerning themselves with his prospects of rejoining the senior national team. When questioned about Pant’s chances of selection for the T20 World Cup, Ganguly emphasized the importance of the Delhi captain participating in additional matches to acclimatize to the demands of competitive cricket.

Pant’s impactful return
Rishabh Pant has made a notable impression since his return to the IPL after surviving a near-fatal road accident in December 2022. Despite undergoing multiple surgeries to recover from his injuries, Pant has exhibited no signs of discomfort and has regained full fitness. Taking on the role of leading the Capitals once again, Pant has displayed control with the bat, amassing 152 runs in four matches, including two half-centuries. In Delhi’s recent matches against CSK and KKR in Vizag, Pant showcased his trademark no-look sixes, evoking nostalgia among fans.
“Rishabh is fully fit. His form has been fantastic. He is keeping and batting well but let him play a few matches more: If the national selectors want him, I should be able to judge in another week,” Sourav Ganguly told the press in Mumbai ahead of DC’s away game at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
Pant faces tough competition for the wicketkeeper slots in the T20 World Cup squad, with contenders such as Jitesh Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan vying for selection. Furthermore, it remains to be seen if the senior national selection committee will hasten Pant’s return to international cricket. The T20 World Cup, scheduled for June 1 in the USA and the West Indies, adds further intrigue to Pant’s situation.
