India’s top batter Rishabh Pant was nominated for Comeback of the year award for his inspiring return from a horrific accident but despite being widely praised for his comeback he missed out on the most esteemed award. Rebeca Andrade won that award after overcoming three major ACL injuries.
Duplantis was awarded Laureus World Sportsman of the Year, an honor that had thus far gone beyond his grasp on his three earlier nominations. At 25, widely regarded as the best ever pole vaulter, Duplantis at last secured the prize following a thrilling 2024 season during which he not only won Olympic gold in Paris but broke his own world record for a record ninth time. He became the second track and field athlete ever to take the award, which is behind only four-time recipient Usain Bolt.
For the women, Simone Biles followed up her record-breaking streak by winning the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year award for the fourth time, matching the record shared by Serena Williams.
