Court proceedings against former Big Bash League cricketer Aaron William Summers have been delayed after new evidence was made late.
Summers, 29, has been charged with serious offenses, including the penetrative sexual abuse of a child or young person and grooming with intent to expose them to indecent material. The offenses are claimed to have occurred in Hobart on January 16, 2018 - while playing for the Hobart Hurricanes team.

Summer's appeared by phone connection from Perth during a short hearing in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Friday. His attorney, Caroline Graves, advised the court that new evidence had been delivered at the eleventh hour. She said that the material would take three or four weeks for proper examination.

Consequently, Magistrate Andrew McKee reserved the matter for September 8. Summers has been kept on bail and has not yet pleaded. The case might even be taken to the Supreme Court of Tasmania, as Magistrate McKee indicated, depending on how the proceedings take shape.
Summers was extradited from the Northern Territory to Tasmania in April. He featured in a single game for Hobart Hurricanes in 2017 and three one-day matches for Tasmania in 2018. In 2020, he made the news as the first foreign player to play in Pakistan's rebuilt domestic cricket league.
