Former India captain MS Dhoni has given a significant hint on his participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 with the Chennai Super Kings, saying that his knee has survived the operation and he is going through the rehabilitation process.
Under Dhoni’s captaincy, CSK won the IPL 2023 title after beating Gujarat Titans in the final. However, the ‘Captain Cool’ was clearly seen struggling with his knee injury during the whole season.
After the end of last IPL season, the 42-year-old underwent knee surgery and he has now disclosed that he is experiencing no complications and medical professionals have assured him that he will feel significantly better by November.
“Knee has survived the operation, going through the rehab patch, the doctor told me you would feel much better by November. But no problem in day-to-day routine,” said Dhoni during an event in Bengaluru.
Two times World Cup winner, who is also one of the most successful IPL captains with five titles, had earlier said that he would try his best to return to play for Chennai Super Kings for one more IPL season.
“Circumstantially, it’s the best time to announce retirement. The easy thing for me is to say thank you and retire. But the amount of love I have received from CSK fans, it would be a gift for them to (see me) play one more season,” Dhoni had said at the Narendra Modi Stadium after IPL 2023 final in May.
During the Bengaluru event, Dhoni was also asked about his legacy as a cricketer and he said that he just wants to be remembered as a decent human being.
“You know, right from the start, I was not into that people should remember me as a good cricketer. I always said, you know, I want to be remembered as a good human being. You know, and if you want to be a good human being, it’s a process till you die,” the CSK captain said.
Before the start of IPL 2024 season, the player auction will be held on December 19 in Dubai. It is the first time the auction will be held overseas.
