‘200 Also Might Not Be Enough’ – Sunil Gavaskar’s Warning To Team India Amidst Jasprit Bumrah Injury Crisis

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has explained the value of Jasprit Bumrah amidst his injury crisis in IND vs AUS 5th Test.

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has single-handedly led the charge for the India national cricket team in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The latter has picked up 32 wickets from nine innings at an average of 13.06. The right-handed Indian pacer achieved the record of 200 wickets in Test cricket whereas he achieved the highest Test rating points by an Indian bowler in the ICC rankings. Everything seemed to be going fine for the ace Indian pacer until he was hit by a back spasm during Day 2 of IND vs AUS 5th Test and was rushed to the hospital for scans. The latter only bowled 10 overs and picked up two wickets.

Jasprit Bumrah Breaks Bishan Singh Bedi’s Record

However, despite not bowling much in the fifth Test, Jasprit Bumrah broke the 47-year-old record of legendary Indian bowler Bishan Singh Bedi. Sunil Gavaskar Warns Team India Amidst Jasprit Bumrah Injury Concerns

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar explained Jasprit Bumrah’s importance during the second innings of the IND vs AUS 5th Test and stated that if Bumrah isn’t fit even 200 runs willn’t be enough to defend for the Indian bowlers. He said while speaking to the broadcasters, “Look, if India scores more 40 runs or they put 185 on the board then they have a great chance but it all depends on Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness. If Jasprit Bumrah is fit then 145-150 might be enough. But if Jasprit Bumrah is not fit then a score of around 200 also might not be enough.”

The Day 3 of the IND vs AUS 5th Test will be very essential for both teams and can very much decide the tone of the match. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar are currently the last recognised the Indian pair at the crease and both the players will look to add as much runs as they can to setup a tough target for the Australian team.
