World No. 1 Jannik Sinner is running a narrow window of recovery before the 2025 US Open gets underway this Sunday in New York. The Italian sensation had just pulled out of the tournament’s new mixed doubles event where he was paired with Katerina Siniakova owing to a sudden bout of illness that hit him during the Cincinnati Open final earlier this week.
What Happened To Jannik Sinner In Cincinnati Open Final?
In match against Carlos Alcaraz, Sinner was clearly ill from the beginning. He conceded the first seven points of the match, and eventually retired down 0-5 in the first set. Struggling with hot temperatures, the reigning Cincinnati champion could be seen panting for air and holding his stomach between points before deciding to withdraw.

Sinner’s Participation In US Open 2025

Jannik Sinner Coach Gives Health Update
Sinner’s coach Darren Cahill gave an update about Jannik’s health and mentioned it was a virus which forced him to retire in Cincinnati Open 2025 Final.

“Jannik suffered from a virus that forced him to retire against Alcaraz on Monday. He’s feeling a bit better now, will rest today, and is expected back on court Thursday. We are confident he’s going to be fine,” Cahill spoke to ESPN ahead of the US Open draw release on Thursday.
