Rishabh Pant’s retention for the IPL 2025 has taken a very inextricable turn. Recently the left handed wicket keeper batter has confirmed that he didn’t leave Delhi Capitals because of a disagreement with the franchise over his retention fee. He posted on X,
“My retention wasn’t about the money for sure that I can say”
Pant’s reaction came after India batting legend Sunil Gavaskar suggested that the wicket-keeper batter likely left the franchise due to a disagreement over his retention fee. The auction dynamics are always different sometimes the players want more than the previous retention fee and this might create some friction between the franchise and the player. Pant was allowed to leave DC, bringing an end to a 9-year association with the franchise.

The IPL 2025 auction will be held on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Pant will be one of the big players in demand during the IPL 2025 auction. Chennai Super Kings CEO, Kasi Viswanathan has also shown interest in Pant and said they would love to have Pant on their side but they seem to lack the purse for that after retention of players and the budget allotted to them.
So will Pant be seen in the yellow jersey this IPL? In an interview with Provoke TV, former player Ambati Rayudu neither denied nor accepted it. Pant is expected to have all 10 franchises after him. However, the purse balance of franchises suggests that he is likely to join one of Lucknow Super Giants, Punjab Kings or Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Even a return to DC can’t be ruled out yet.
