New Delhi: Team India’s young batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal made his international debut during the recently concluded two-match Test series against the West Indies. Yashasvi, who came into the limelight from the ICC Under-19 World Cup, has since then performed strongly in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL) and that is why he also got a chance to debut in Team India.

Coach Jwala Singh denies pani-puri story

The left-handed batsman did not disappoint in his debut Test series, scoring a total of 266 runs in three innings at an average of 88.66. Yashasvi scored the most runs in the Test series against the West Indies. Whenever Yashasvi does something big, a picture and story related to him starts becoming very viral. In which it is claimed that before the ICC Under-19 World Cup, Yashasvi used to sell Panipuri with his father in Mumbai for a successful living. Yashasvi’s childhood coach Jwala Singh said that there is only five per cent truth in this claim.

Pani-puri viral after interview with journalist

In an interview to Republic World, Jwala Singh said, ‘Earlier I used to ask many media people to interview Yashasvi, but they kept refusing to do so. Suddenly one day someone interviewed Yashasvi without asking me and without taking my permission. I was in England at that time, Yashasvi called me again and said that some journalists want to interview me, I said ok, do it.”

“They asked him some personal questions, he innocently told the story of Panipuri. To make their story more effective, people made the headline of ‘Panipuri wali’. I was shocked to see that story, because I have brought him up like my own son and tried to give him all the facilities, he said.

“Whenever Yashasvi does something great, people share the same panipuri photo, claiming that the man standing next to him is his father. He is such a man, his father does not sell Panipuri for a living,” he further added.

Pani-puri story share regularly in media

He further said, ‘I have always said that Yashasvi never sold Panipuri for a living, I have also said this in many media houses. Ever since he started cricket training with me in 2013, he has never sold Panipuri. This story is forcefully shared again and again, it makes a good headline, but only 5% of it is true.”

“When he first came to Mumbai, he used to live in a tent, he must have done this job for a few days. He didn’t even have basic things, no electricity, no proper food, his tent used to fill with water during monsoon. But ever since he started training with me, these problems are no more with him,” Singh said on Yashasvi struggle.

I have known him for 10 years and trained him for 10 years, it has become a trend nowadays, when a player plays well, the story of his difficult days is shared. Yes he has faced a lot of difficulties but it is not true that he sold Panipuri in Mumbai with his father and this helped him in his cricket training,” he stated.

“When he came to Mumbai, his father used to send him 1000 rupees a month, his father has a paint shop, the good cricket he is playing, his training, coaching, food are all behind him. Whatever I could do, I did for him. No one can become a cricketer if time and money is not put behind it. I have given him nine years of my life,” Singh signed off.
