Ranji Trophy 2024-25: After sitting out last season’s 2023-24 season, Ishan Kishan will return to captain Jharkhand for the Ranji Trophy. He has not been at the helm since 2018-19 and comes into this season after one where their previous skipper, Virat Singh, filled in under a watchful eye from Saurabh Tiwary, who retired after the last match.

Kishan played his first game since December 2022 recently when he played for the Rest of India against Mumbai in the Irani Cup. In that match, he remained not out at 38 while batting in only one innings, though he did not keep wicket; the wicket-keeper was Dhruv Jurel of his side. He is unlikely to keep wickets for Jharkhand too since Kumar Kushagra is its wicket-keeper. Till before the Irani Cup, Kishan had played two matches for India C in the Duleep Trophy.
Kishan lost his BCCI central contract as well while away from the Ranji Trophy, accompanied by Shreyas Iyer, since the board maintained its policy on requiring participation in domestic cricket by athletes who do not play for the national team.
Probables: Jharkhand team: Kumar Kushagra and Anukul Roy set to play in the first two matches of the 2024-25 season. Pathetically, the match was closely followed as Jharkhand concluded third last in Group A, winning two, losing two, and drawing three out of seven matches. Their campaign begins with Assam at Guwahati in Elite Group D.
“Ishan is an experienced player with international exposure,” said Subroto Das, chairman of Jharkhand’s selection committee. “We’ve assembled a young team, as Saurabh Tiwary, Shahbaz Nadeem, and Varun Aaron have all retired. We believe Ishan is capable of leading this youthful side, and we are optimistic about our performance this Ranji season.“
