The Indian cricket team are set to play a 3-match T20I series against Afghanistan and the squad for the same was announced on January 7.
With the inclusion of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma being the biggest inclusion in the team, Indian wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan was left out of the squad which raises concerns about the batter being out of favour ahead of a big tournament like T20 World Cup.
Ishan Kishan had requested to be released from the South Africa tour due to ‘mental fatigue’ after the player all year round travelling with the squad.
However, the decision is turning out against him with his name missing from the team list for Team India’s last T20 assignment ahead of the World Cup in June.
After scoring his 2nd 50 against Australia, Ishan Kishan said he felt bad about not contributing in WC but he kept practicing because Captain Rohit and Coach Dravid assured him he will play later. Since then he was benched in 4 t20i matches, dropped from ODI, & now not selected. pic.twitter.com/uoeu3ZOz5n

Ishan last played in the T20 series against Australia and had a decent outing against the Kangaroos. The left hander, who is currently on a break from cricket will be hoping that the BCCI selectors would be considering him for the quadrennial event this year.

Ishan’ last resort to change the selector’s mind will be to have an impressive outing in the upcoming IPL 2024 campaign with his side Mumbai Indians. Ishan Kishan has always been an integral part of the Mumbai team and will be looking forward to do well under the new leadership of Hardik Pandya who has returned to his former side in the league.
