Irani Cup 2024: Mumbai Ends 27-Year Wait For Glory Under Rahane’s Leadership, Sarfaraz Khan Shines Bright!

Mumbai has won the Irani Cup title. This trophy has come to Mumbai after 27 years under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane. Sarfaraz Khan was the hero of Mumbai's victory.

Mumbai Irani Cup 2024 Champion: Mumbai’s 27-year-long wait under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane is over. Mumbai has won the Irani Cup title for the 15th time. The match played against the Rest of India ended in a draw, but Mumbai was declared the winner based on the lead in the first innings. The hero of Mumbai’s victory was Sarfaraz Khan, who played an important role in making the team champion by scoring a brilliant double-century in the first innings. Mumbai had earlier won the Irani Cup title in the year 1997.

Mumbai Became Champion For The 15th Time

After winning the Ranji Trophy title, Ajinkya Rahane has also made Mumbai the champion of the Irani Cup under his captaincy. Mumbai’s performance was strong in the match played against the Rest of India. Batting first, Mumbai scored 537 runs on the scoreboard. Sarfaraz Khan scored a double-century while batting brilliantly for the team.

At the same time, captain Rahane was also in form with the bat and played a brilliant innings of 97 runs. Tanush Kotian played an important innings of 64 runs in the lower order. Shreyas Iyer also took the Rest of India bowlers to task and played a strong innings of 57 runs. Mukesh Kumar wreaked havoc from the Rest of India’s side and took 5 wickets, but he could not stop Mumbai from scoring a big score in the first innings.

Sarfaraz Stole The Show

Sarfaraz Khan stole the show for Mumbai in the title match of the Irani Cup. Sarfaraz batted brilliantly in the first innings and scored an unbeaten 222 runs off 286 balls. Sarfaraz also became the first batsman from Mumbai to score a double century in the Irani Cup. During his fiery innings, Sarfaraz hit 25 fours and hit the ball directly across the boundary line 4 times. Sarfaraz, who is trying to secure a place in India’s Test team, was selected Man of the Match for his strong performance.

Abhimanyu Easwaran’s Innings Went In Vain

Abhimanyu Easwaran’s bat spoke loudly from the Rest of India side and he played a memorable innings of 191 runs. At the same time, wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel played a brilliant innings of 93 runs. Ishan Kishan failed to take advantage of the good start and could score only 38 runs. In reply to Mumbai’s 537, the entire Rest of India team was all out after scoring 416 runs. In bowling, Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian were successful in trapping the opposition batsmen in their spin web and both took three wickets each.

Shaw-Tanush Created A Stir

For Mumbai, Prithvi Shaw performed brilliantly with the bat in the second innings and scored a brilliant innings of 76 runs. After scoring a half-century in the first innings, Tanush Kotian also batted brilliantly and scored a strong century in the second innings. Tanush remained not out after scoring 114 runs. Mohit Awasthi also completed his half-century just before the match was drawn. For the Rest of India, Saransh Jain bowled brilliantly and took 6 wickets in the second innings.
