In midst of churning rumors and growing speculation, it’s now being established that Sanju Samson won’t be leaving the Rajasthan Royals before the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Contrary to the speculations that connected the stylish wicketkeeper-batter with a possible switch to either Chennai Super Kings (CSK) or Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), credible sources have confirmed that the 30-year-old will stay with the Jaipur-based side.
Ever since the end of IPL 2025, speculation regarding Samson’s future has taken over off-season gossip, especially following his injury-affected season. The RR captain had broken his right index finger in the T20I series against England earlier this year – an injury that needed surgery and had him sitting out for a few games.
In spite of being out of action for a few matches because of the finger injury and a side strain that followed, Samson played nine matches, hitting 285 runs at a strike rate of 140.39. In his absence, Royals were led by all-rounder Riyan Parag, indicating the team’s increasing depth in leadership.
Chennai Speculation Put to Rest for Now
Most of the rumors surrounding Samson’s possible exit were fueled by CSK’s planned leadership transformation. As MS Dhoni would be resting on the sidelines, the Chennai franchise reportedly looked to go beyond Ruturaj Gaikwad, whose season in 2025 was one of inconsistency.
Samson, with his attacking batting talent and leadership experience, was, in the eyes of many, a natural choice for the yellow jersey. His capacity to fill both the anchor and aggressor roles made him a desirable option for a team that needed new impetus.
But a trade never happened. There are sources within the Rajasthan Royals camp indicating that the team does not plan on releasing their captain, who is still at the heart of their plans for next season.

Loyalty Amid the Noise
This is not the first time Samson has been associated with a big-ticket transfer. However, time and again, the Kerala-born cricketer has demonstrated commitment to the Royals, the side which gave him the captain’s job and has stood by him in his ups and downs.
