IPL 2026 Trade Window: With the IPL 2026 mini auction just weeks away, franchises across the league are busy finalizing their retention lists and exploring trade options ahead of key deadlines. According to a report by Cricbuzz, the auction is expected to take place around December 15, while teams must confirm their retention by November 15.
Even though it’s classified as a mini auction, this year’s window is shaping up to be a crucial one. Several teams are preparing for aggressive moves, particularly those looking to rebuild after disappointing IPL 2025 campaigns.
Mumbai Indians Begin Post-Rohit Planning, Target Ishan Kishan Return
One of the most talked-about developments involves the Mumbai Indians (MI), who appear to be planning for life beyond Rohit Sharma. The 38-year-old former MI and India captain has already stepped away from T20Is and Test cricket, and questions are being raised about how much longer he’ll continue in the IPL.
According to The Times of India, MI are eyeing a potential reunion with Ishan Kishan, who was released by the franchise after IPL 2024 and subsequently bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for ₹11.25 crore. Sources suggest that Mumbai are keen to bring the left-handed wicketkeeper-batter back as part of their long-term leadership and batting plans.
While South African keeper Ryan Rickelton did a decent job for MI in IPL 2025, Kishan’s return would give the franchise a valuable Indian wicketkeeping option, freeing up a slot for an additional overseas player.
SRH Reluctant to Trade, Rival Franchises Show Interest
However, MI aren’t the only team interested. Both Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have reportedly entered the race for Kishan’s signature. Trade discussions are said to be ongoing, with both cash and player-swap possibilities being explored.
SRH, meanwhile, are understood to be reluctant to release Kishan, viewing him as a key part of their batting core. Ultimately, the decision could come down to the player himself and whether he’s open to rejoining his former team.
Auction Crucial for Teams Looking to Rebuild
The IPL 2026 auction could prove pivotal for several franchises seeking a fresh start. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) who finished bottom two in IPL 2025 are under pressure to make major calls on their squad compositions.
Elsewhere, defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), led by Rajat Patidar after the departure of Faf du Plessis, will aim to build on their breakthrough title win.
As the November 15 retention deadline approaches, trade talks are expected to heat up. And with Ishan Kishan at the center of one of the most high-profile negotiations this offseason, the IPL 2026 trade window promises to be one of the most eventful in recent years.
