Shami, who has featured in 119 IPL matches across several teams, has picked up 133 wickets with best figures of 4/11. He claimed the Purple Cap in 2023 with 28 wickets for Gujarat Titans and played a key role in their title-winning campaign, although he missed the 2024 season due to injury.

His 2025 stint with SRH was below expectations, managing only six wickets at an economy rate of 11.23. Currently delivering strong performances for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, Shami will be hoping that a solid IPL 2026 season helps put him back in contention for an India comeback.

IPL 2026 Retentions Live Updates: CSK set to release Matheesha Pathirana

Pathirana grabbed 19 wickets in 12 matches during CSK’s title-winning 2023 campaign, impressing with his sharp pace and unique slingy action. However, after being forced to modify his action due to injury concerns, his effectiveness dropped, leading CSK to move on before the new season.

Mumbai Indians have confirmed the arrival of all-rounder Shardul Thakur for IPL 2026, finalising a much-talked-about trade with Lucknow Super Giants. Thakur had joined LSG as an injury replacement last season after going unsold in the auction, where he impressed with 13 wickets in 10 matches, including a four-wicket spell.

Mumbai announced his signing on X with a video titled “Lord Thakur incoming.”

Valued at Rs 2 crore, Thakur will now play for his seventh IPL team, having previously represented CSK, DC, KKR, LSG, Rising Pune Supergiant, and Punjab Kings. The BCCI is set to release the full list of official trades and retentions on Saturday, ahead of the December 15–16 IPL auction.

IPL 2026 Retentions Live Updates: LSG to release Ravi Bishnoi and David Miller

Lucknow Super Giants are preparing for big changes ahead of the IPL 2026 retention deadline. The franchise is expected to keep young fast-bowling star Mayank Yadav and bring in experienced pacer Mohammed Shami from Sunrisers Hyderabad in an all-cash deal worth about Rs 10 crore.

Even though Mayank has been out for a long period following back surgery, LSG still considers him a rare talent and wants to support his return.

On the other hand, Ravi Bishnoi and David Miller are likely to be released after patchy performances. With Bharat Arun overseeing the pace group, LSG plans to strengthen its bowling attack before the mid-December mini-auction.

Mohammed Shami is set to join Lucknow Super Giants from Sunrisers Hyderabad for his full ₹10 crore contract value. Ravindra Jadeja has moved to Rajasthan Royals on a revised deal worth ₹14 crore, while Sanju Samson heads to Chennai Super Kings, keeping his Rs 18 crore salary.

Sam Curran has also been traded to RR for Rs 2.4 crore. Mumbai Indians have brought back Mayank Markande, and Arjun Tendulkar has been picked up by LSG for Rs 30 lakh.

Delhi Capitals have strengthened their middle order with Nitish Rana for Rs 4.2 crore, and Donovan Ferreira returns to Rajasthan Royals with his contract upgraded to Rs 1 crore.

IPL 2026 Retentions Live Updates: LSG likely to keep Mayank Yadav

Lucknow Super Giants are focusing on rebuilding their pace attack by retaining Mayank Yadav and bringing in Mohammed Shami from Sunrisers Hyderabad in a full-cash deal worth around Rs 10 crore.

Even with Mayank’s injury troubles, LSG believes he is a rare fast-bowling talent and worth investing in. With Bharat Arun guiding the bowling group, the franchise is determined to strengthen its pace department after last season’s issues.

At the same time, LSG are set to release Ravi Bishnoi, David Miller, and possibly Shamar Joseph.

These bold changes make it clear that LSG wants to fix last year’s bowling weaknesses before the mid-December mini-auction.

IPL 2026 Retentions Live Updates: Rahane to stay at KKR

Ajinkya Rahane will stay on with the Kolkata Knight Riders after the franchise’s attempt to trade for KL Rahul fell through. Despite the rumours, Rahane’s steady captaincy and impressive batting scoring 390 runs at a strike rate close to 150, convinced KKR to retain him for another season.

The proposed trade collapsed after one of the Delhi Capitals’ owners reportedly vetoed the move.

By backing Rahane, KKR gain stability at the top, especially after releasing Venkatesh Iyer. With a strong purse available, the franchise is now preparing for an aggressive mini-auction and is expected to push hard for Cameron Green.

IPL 2026 Retentions Live Updates: PBKS set to let go Glenn Maxwell

Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings last season’s champions and runners-up are expected to stick with their core groups.

RCB are likely to part ways with Mayank Agarwal, Liam Livingstone, and Rasikh Dar, but most of their main squad will stay unchanged.

PBKS, on the other hand, are preparing to release Glenn Maxwell, Aaron Hardie, and Vishnu Vinod, along with Mitch Owen, who came in as Maxwell’s replacement during the season.

Both teams seem focused on stability and carrying forward their momentum from last year. Their short release lists stand in sharp contrast to the major overhauls planned by franchises that struggled in the previous season.

IPL 2026 Retentions Live Updates: Ravindra Jadeja accepts pay cut to move to RR

Ravindra Jadeja has officially moved to the Rajasthan Royals in a blockbuster IPL trade that sends RR skipper Sanju Samson to Chennai Super Kings, while Sam Curran heads to Jaipur. Jadeja ends his 12-year journey with CSK and will now earn Rs 14 crore, a drop from his previous Rs 18 crore contract.

The switch also brings him back to the team where his IPL career first began in 2008. Jadeja consulted MS Dhoni before making the decision, and both agreed the move was the right one for everyone involved.

Rajasthan Royals have been extremely active this trade window, while CSK now face the big challenge of rebuilding their squad after losing one of their longest-serving stars.

IPL 2026 Retentions Live Updates: Major stars likely to be let go

As teams finalise their retention lists, experts believe the IPL 2026 auction could be one of the most star-packed ever.

Many franchises are planning to release expensive players so they have more room to sign fresh talent. With several teams reshaping their core squads, some big names including top batters, key fast bowlers, and experienced all-rounders may return to the auction table.

This sets up the possibility of fierce bidding wars and surprising team reunions. The decisions made on Retention Day will heavily impact auction plans, purse balance, and any trade talks leading up to December.
