SRH Auction Strategy: SRH has a lot of work to do before the upcoming IPL season. The team created complete chaos last year. Their approach seemed simple – either do it to the extreme, or don’t do it at all. They smashed 278, then 247, but also collapsed for 120. And despite the batting inconsistency, their biggest problem was actually bowling.
Should SRH release Mohammed Shami?
When you think about the players SRH might release, Mohammed Shami’s name comes up first. SRH bought him for Rs 10 crore, but he managed only six wickets in 9 games, finishing with an economy rate of over 11.
However, that was last season. Shami is currently performing well in the Ranji Trophy, which might tempt SRH to retain him. The question is: Should SRH keep him, or release him and try buying him back for a cheaper price?
If they release him, SRH frees up Rs 10 crore.
Ishan Kishan – Keep or Release?
Ishan Kishan scored a century in the first match but managed only 250 runs in the next 13 innings, ending the season with 350 runs. A major disappointment for a Rs 11.25 crore signing.
SRH may choose to release him as well, creating space in the purse. They can still attempt a buy-back at a fair price. Releasing both Shami and Kishan frees Rs 21.25 crore.
Availability concerns for Adam Zampa
Adam Zampa didn’t offer many returns, and his fitness and availability issues remain a concern. Releasing him frees an additional Rs 2.40 crore, taking the total available purse from these three releases to around Rs 23.5 crore.

What Does SRH Need Now?
A Top-Order Batter
If SRH releases Ishan Kishan, they need a new top-order option. They could also buy Kishan back, depending on strategy.
Powerplay Strike Bowler
If they let go of Shami, they must bring in a genuine wicket-taking bowler for the powerplay. Is the solution Shami himself on a cheaper deal? SRH management has to decide.
A Reliable Middle-Order Batter
SRH needs a player who can switch gears – anchor when required and unleash big hits when needed. Someone who can stabilize the innings while also taking down the opposition’s bowling attack.
Quality Spinner
SRH shockingly didn’t have a proper spinner in the entire squad last season. Rahul had four spinners but none delivered consistently. This year, SRH must secure at least one dependable spinner.
Final Outlook
SRH has several gaps to fill, and the purse looks promising if they release the underperforming trio. Strengthening the top order, powerplay bowling, middle order, and spin attack is crucial. How they utilize the auction will define whether they fix the raita or spread it again.
