Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, two giants of franchise cricket, have faced each other countless times in the IPL. Their rivalry is so iconic that fans call it the ‘El Clasico’ of the league. Both teams share five IPL trophies each, and whenever they clash, the matches become historic and players turn into fierce rivals on the field.
Yet, over the years, several cricketers have worn both the blue and the yellow jerseys. Let’s take a look at these rare dual-representing stars.
Dwayne Bravo
This charismatic Caribbean all-rounder needs no introduction. Bravo represented both franchise giants in the IPL. MI picked him in the 2008 auction, and he played for them until 2010. In the 2011 mega auction, CSK grabbed the opportunity and added him to their squad and kickstarted a decade-long golden chapter.
For MI, Bravo scored 475 runs at a strike rate of 117.1 and took 26 wickets in 30 matches. With CSK, he unleashed his true beast mode, scoring 1004 runs at 137.1 and picking up 140 wickets in 115 games. He became CSK’s death-bowling backbone and lifted four IPL trophies with them in 2011, 2018, 2021 as a player and 2023 as their bowling coach.
Ambati Rayudu
Arguably the most underrated batter in IPL history, Rayudu was the silent anchor of MI’s middle order. He scored 2416 runs at a strike rate of 126 in 114 matches for MI. For CSK, he added 1932 runs at a strike rate of 129 in 89 matches.
Rayudu won six IPL titles, three with MI (2013, 2015, 2017) and three with CSK (2018, 2021, 2023). He retired from the IPL after the 2023 season.
Harbhajan Singh
The ‘Turbanator’ also had the rare achievement of representing both MI and CSK. Harbhajan was bought by MI in the 2008 auction and stayed with them for over a decade, even captaining the side during their first Champions League win in 2011.
He took 127 wickets in 136 matches for MI. CSK acquired him in 2018, where he delivered a decent performance with 23 wickets in 24 matches. Harbhajan won three IPL trophies with MI (2013, 2015, 2017) and one with CSK (2018).
Deepak Chahar
Deepak is another player who appeared for both sides in his IPL journey. CSK bought him for Rs 80 lakhs in 2018, and he soon became their best-ever powerplay bowler, picking 76 wickets in 75 matches while contributing crucial runs lower down the order. In the 2025 mega auction, MI bought him for ₹9.75 crore after an intense bidding war with CSK.
His season, however, was below expectations as he managed just 11 wickets in 14 matches with an economy of 9.71. Deepak won three IPL titles with CSK in 2018, 2021, and 2023. A fun fact, he made both his CSK debut (2018) and MI debut (2025) against the opposite team, that too at CSK’s fortress, Chepauk against CSK and in Wankhede Stadium stadium against MI.
Dewald Brevis
The latest addition to this list is South Africa’s exciting young talent, Dewald Brevis. MI bought him in the 2022 mega auction after a bidding contest with CSK. His MI stint never really clicked as he played just 10 matches in two seasons, scoring 230 runs.
MI released him in 2024, and in 2025 CSK signed him as a replacement. Brevis instantly made an impact, smashing 225 runs in just six matches at an explosive strike rate of 180.
