IPL 2026 Auction: The craze to the IPL 2026 auction is intensifying after the BCCI confirmed a staggering 1,355 players, who registered for the mega event ahead of the November 30 deadline. The auction is scheduled for December 16 at Etihad Arena, Abu Dhabi, featuring one of the largest preliminary lists in IPL history.
Among the most notable names is the Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, who headlines the overseas contingent. Apart from Green, fellow veteran Australian star Glenn Maxwell opted out for the upcoming IPL season, sparking debate about the end of an era for one of the IPL’s most dynamic entertainers.
Two Indians for 2 crore base price
In the upcoming IPL 2026 auction, there are only two Indian players who have set for the base price of 2 crore and they are Venkatesh Iyer and Ravi Bishnoi. After playing for 5 years, the 3-time champion KKR released him ahead of retention day. Last year, he was acquired for massive 23.75 crore, but had a torrid season for them with only a single fifty under his name.
Whereas, Ravi Bishnoi was released by Lucknow Super Giants with whom he had a great time. Now under the hammer, Bishnoi would be one of the top picks in the upcoming auction.
Purse battle between franchises
Collectively, Ten IPL teams have Rs 237.55 crore ahead of the auction. KKR will enter with the largest purse at Rs 64.30 crore, followed by CSK with Rs 43.40 crore, positioning both as front-runners to chase marquee names in the Rs 2 crore bracket.
Franchises will focus on filling key gaps created by pre-auction releases and retention, setting the stage for a high-stakes bidding contest in Abu Dhabi.
