IPL 2025: Team India’s star wicket-keeper batter, KL Rahul is one of the names who is the limelight. When Lucknow Super Giants released him, Delhi Capitals bought him for Rs.14 crore in the mega auction. It was speculated that Rahul could be given the captaincy of Delhi for the upcoming IPL season. However, reports now indicate that he prefers to play as a player only.
Axar Patel Might Get Captaincy
All-rounder Axar Patel has been a part of Delhi Capitals since 2019. The team retained him for Rs 16.5 crore in the retention list released before the mega auction. With Rahul opting not to take the captaincy, Delhi now has a strong captaincy option in Axar. His experience could help end the team’s trophy drought.
Talking about his performance, Axar amassed 235 runs in 12 innings in IPL 2024. He also scalped 11 wickets. So far, he has played for only two teams in the IPL.

No Option For DC
Delhi only has two captaincy options for IPL 2025. Either the management convinces Rahul to take the captaincy, or Axar Patel is given the responsibility. Looking at the entire team, no other strong candidate stands out for the role. While the team has several big names, there isn’t anyone else who can lead effectively.
