IPL 2025: Before the mega auction of IPL 2025, the Kolkata Knight Riders’ retention list surprised everyone. KKR decided not to retain captain Shreyas Iyer, who made the team champion under his captaincy last season. Many questions were raised about this decision of the team management. Meanwhile, the CEO of the KKR team himself revealed the reason behind not retaining Iyer. He says that Shreyas was the team’s first choice among the players to be retained.
Why Shreyas Iyer was not retained?
Kolkata Knight Riders CEO Venky Mysore revealed the reason for not retaining Iyer. The franchise does not have a one-sided influence in this. The player also has to agree keeping many factors in mind. Sometimes some things cannot be agreed upon. The reason for this is money or the player wants to test his value or something else. All these things also matter. But Shreyas Iyer was the first choice in our retention list.”
KKR was crowned Champion
Last season was memorable for Shreyas Iyer as captain. KKR performed brilliantly under Iyer’s captaincy and won the IPL title for the third time. Along with captaincy, Iyer’s performance with the bat was also strong and he scored 351 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 146. It was believed that KKR would decide to retain Iyer at all costs. However, things did not work out between the team and the star batsman.
