Rishabh Pant has been appointed as the captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The LSG franchise announced this on Monday in Kolkata. ESPNcricinfo had reported about Pant’s appointment as captain on Sunday, and it has now been confirmed.
On this occasion, Pant said, “I would especially like to thank Sanjiv Goenka sir (team owner) and the entire management. I will give my 200 percent. I will try my best to live up to the trust they have shown in me. This is a new beginning. Hope we will perform very well in the new season.”

LSG had bought Pant for 27 crore rupees in the November 2024 auction. This made Pant the most expensive player in IPL history. This will be the second IPL team that Pant will captain. Previously, he led DC in the 2021, 2022, and 2024 seasons. He couldn’t play in 2023 due to injury.
Pant said, “I’m very happy with my new team. Our team has a very good balance of young and senior players. Now we have to think about how to take this franchise to new heights. I know this is a new beginning, a new franchise. However, the way I captain or play cricket won’t change much. Yes, there will be many additions to it. We will move forward according to whatever team strategy will be.”
On this occasion, team mentor Zaheer Khan said, “I still remember when I saw Pant in Delhi Capitals jersey for the first time. Even then I felt that Pant has a lot to give to cricket. Many congratulations to him for a new role. Together we all want to play fearless and exciting cricket.”

Pant decided to leave DC because of captaincy, as DC wanted to retain him but didn’t want to give him captaincy. Previously, KL Rahul had led this team from 2022 to 2024, and the team had reached the playoffs in the first two years.
However, in 2024, the team finished seventh, and during a match, captain Rahul and team owner Sanjiv Goenka were seen having a serious argument on TV. After this, Rahul moved towards the auction, where he was bought by Pant’s former team Delhi Capitals (DC) this time.
