IPL 2025 Restart Faces Setback With Star Foreign Players Opting Out

The IPL was suspended for one week on May 9, due to tensions intensifying between India and Pakistan. After a lot of foreign players have returned to their home country, reports indicate that the IPL will be boosted awfully early in the coming future after the recent ceasefire. If the IPL kicks off sometime around the 16th or 17th of May and perhaps even later, a handful of foreign players may choose not to return for the decided upon matches. In case this is so, it would mean that key players from various squads who were instrumental in contributions and are also impromptu players this season will not form part of the matches.

List Of Players Who Are Likely Not To Return For IPL 2025

Mitchell Starc:

Mitchell Starc is unlikely to return to IPL 2025 after tournament suspension due to tiredness concerns and its recurring injury problems. With 14 wickets from 11 innings, the Australian bowler became a central component of Delhi Capitals, leaving India on May 11. If Delhi Capital fails to qualify for the playoffs, with three more fixtures yet to be played, a hasty return to Australia may prove impossible for Starc. Since national commitments are everything to me, then it is probable that Starc will focus on how he can remain set for international appeals.

Josh Hazlewood:

When we add to it, some persistent hearings and national duties, it becomes highly unlikely that Josh Hazlewood will be playing IPL 2025. The Australian pacer was exceptional to RCB with 18 wickets in 10 Matches, at a staggering average of 17.27. However, he was not able to play against RR when he had a light injury and is recovering from a group of health problems. Trying to factor in the fact that there is a World Test Championship final ahead of him and the opportunity of going back to India, Hazlewood could choose to be absent for the other part of the IPL.

Jos Buttler:

Although Jos Buttler has played outstanding for GT by scoring 500 runs in 11 innings at the strike rate of 163.93, his participation in IPL 2025 is unclear because of the tournament being suspended. 34 years old Buttler left India early on as the tensions increased and he is not likely to feel mentally prepared to come back anytime soon, given his family obligations. Also, the inclusion of May 29 ODI series against West Indies will squeeze England’s cricket calendar. Considering this fact, Buttler may choose to focus on national service and his personal life, before addressing himself to IPL responsibilities.
