In the 63rd match of IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians (MI) earned a playoff spot with a dominating 59-run win against Delhi Capitals. Under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, MI have won 8 games out of 13 and officially booked a place in the playoffs.
With this outcome, the vision of the four teams that made it to this season’s playoffs has been established. Before Mumbai, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Punjab Kings were already in the game. But even with top four established, the schedule for the playoffs has not yet been made official. So, why is it behind schedule?
Battle for the Top Two
While the four playoff teams have already been locked in, the fight for the number two spot remains far from over. One league match is all that’s left for Mumbai Indians, while Gujarat Titans, RCB, and Punjab Kings all have two remaining.
If Mumbai win their last game, they will end on 18 points. Gujarat Titans will be able to reach 22 points and Punjab Kings and RCB will be able to end on 21 points each. This creates a nerve-wracking race to the top two, with the final standings deciding the playoff encounters.
