Right-to-Match (RTM) Cards: Strategic Moves
Several teams will likely utilize Right-to-Match (RTM) cards during the auction, which allow them to buy back a released player by matching the highest bid. Teams that have retained six players (the maximum allowed) – Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) – will not have RTM cards. Other teams, including Punjab Kings (PBKS), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Delhi Capitals (DC), will have a varying number of RTMs.
Punjab Kings (PBKS): 4 RTMs
RCB: 3 RTMs
DC: 2 RTMs
CSK, GT, LSG, and MI: 1 RTM each
What RTM Cards Mean For Teams
The RTM mechanism allows a team to match the final bid for a player after the highest bid is made, providing them with a strategic advantage in securing key players they’ve previously released. This will add an exciting element to the auction, as teams maneuver to strengthen their rosters.
