Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjeev Goenka has finally stated that the franchise will confirm the captain for the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in a day or two. The CEO was talking to Akash Chopra on his YouTube channel when he revealed that a decision regarding the captain for LSG has already been made by the team, and they should be able to confirm that decision by the end of the first week of December.
LSG headlined the auction when it decided to retain Nicholas Pooran for a price of Rs 21 crore. However, the biggest announcement came when they picked up Rishabh Pant for a whopping Rs 27 crore and marked him as the costliest buy of this IPL auction.
New Captaincy Announcement Soon
“People get surprised very quickly. According to me, I don’t give surprises. It has been decided but we will announce it in the next few days,” Sanjeev Goenka said on Aakash Chopra’s YouTube channel.
“They (Delhi Capitals) bid for Shreyas (Iyer) till Rs 26.50 crore. That means for their No. 1 player, they had that kind of a budget, and knowing Parth’s (Jindal) extreme fondness for Rishabh, I felt they might spend a little more on him than they would on Shreyas. So that is why two bid amounts extra,” he responded.

LSG Trying To Make A Balanced Team
“We decided that we had to make our middle order strong and have an Indian core. However, auctions don’t go exactly the way you plan it. We made a very big go for Jos Buttler but we fell one or two bid amounts short. Zak (Zaheer Khan) JL (Justin Langer), and the captain will decide it,” he replied.
“Options are to open with Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh, Marsh and Rishabh Pant, or Markram and Rishabh. Now that is a call they have to take whether Rishabh will come at No. 3 or No. 2. Those are calls that frankly are beyond my capability and competence,” Goenka said.
Who Will Lead LSG?
Goenka told the fans that they would not be shocked by the name of the captain but asked them to keep calm and wait for the final declaration. He also elaborated on their strategy in terms of Pant’s price, saying that they were watching how Delhi Capitals valued the player and adjusting their bid. Goenka elaborated on LSG’s approach in the IPL mega-auction, saying their goal was to build a solid middle-order core to strengthen the team. He ended by hinting that LSG might open with Aiden Markram and Rishabh Pant in the next season.
