No. Of Retentions

According to media reports, teams would retain only 5 players in IPL 2025. In this, 3 may be Indian and 2 may be foreign. In this formula of retention, Kolkata Knight Riders will face big problems.

KKR Can Retain These 3 Indian Players

The first name among three Indian players retained by Kolkata Knight Riders would be Shreyas Iyer. He is one of the strongest middle-order batter for the team and under his captaincy, he made the team champion of IPL 2024. Given this scenario, it is believed that KKR will retain its champion captain Shreyas Iyer at all costs.

Apart from Shreyas Iyer, Rinku Singh will also remain in the franchise. The retention of Rinku Singh is almost certain. Rinku Singh is the finisher of the team, and he has also risen to the challenge of the hour a couple of times.

Simultaneously, KKR can retain Harshit Rana as its third Indian cricketer. Harshit Rana bowled outstandingly for the side last season.

Brainstorming Of Foreign Players Is Needed

If BCCI sanctions permission to retain only two foreign players, then KKR will be in for a big shock as it presently has several foreign players who can win the match on their own. Those players include Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Mitchell Starc, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Phil Salt. If the team has to retain only two players out of these players, then KKR will not want to make the mistake of letting go of Sunil Narine and Andre Russell at any cost.

Sunil Narine is a player of KKR who is a landmark for the team. He won matches for KKR with both batting and bowling. He was also the Player of the Tournament in IPL 2024. At such a juncture, the question of releasing Sunil Narine does not arise.

Much like Sunil Narine, Andre Russell is also a very crucial player for the side. Though a fact that Andre Russell is not totally fit, still, it can be assumed that the franchise will retain him along with them as well.

Veterans Might Be Released

The veterans like Phil Salt, Mitchell Starc, and young Rahmanullah Gurbaz could be released from the side. It has been said that such pair of players who won the match through their brilliant game performance that made KKR champion, have resulted to be dropped from team.

It is believed that the franchise will try to add both players again through auction. The franchise will also get a chance to bid for Afghanistan’s explosive batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz again in the same auction. On the other hand, Bangladesh’s veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is likely to say goodbye to KKR this time.
