IPL 2025: Aftermath of Mumbai Indians’ 36-run defeat at the hands of Gujarat Titans in the ongoing IPL 2025, left-arm pacer Trent Boult offered his thoughts regarding the reason for defeat. Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj’s scorching bowling and solid half-century from Sai Sudharsan motivated Gujarat Titans towards victory.
At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, MI fought valiantly but saw the game remain out of their reach. With this win, Gujarat Titans got two valuable points and extended their 4-0 unbeaten run against MI at Ahmedabad, their head-to-head standing at 4-2.
Boult On Defeat Against GT
While answering questions at the post-match conference, Boult admitted that MI needed to be 1-2% more effective in batting. “They scored 36 runs more than us, and that’s the place where we lost it. We just have to be a little bit, 1 or 2%, better. They put pressure on our batsmen by slowing the pace of the game. That’s just good cricket,” commented the New Zealand pacer.

Boult further noted that the fielding errors could not be overlooked. “Fielding is a big part of the game, and you can’t excuse it. We were a bit short today. There were some chances to pick catches near the boundary line and save some boundaries. That may have cost us 20 or 30 runs. We will just have to look beyond that and try and do better,” he further noted.
Poor Start By MI
Mumbai Indians, who are captained by Hardik Pandya, have had a sluggish start to IPL 2025, losing their first two games—first to Chennai Super Kings by 4 wickets and now to Gujarat Titans by 36 runs. The team will look to get back on track when they host defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders in their first home game of the season at Wankhede Stadium on Monday.
