Match Summary
Not the homecoming MS Dhoni could have dreamed of on his return to the captaincy. His side have been thoroughly outplayed by the defending IPL champions, who did indeed look the part today. The KKR spinners left CSK in a tangle, as their innings collapsed after Vijay Shankar’s dismissal. Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora also picked up wickets, as CSK struggled to 103/9. In response, Narine received a first-ball six and then Quinton de Kock smocked Anshul Kambhoj for a six and topped it off with two more against Khaleel Ahmed.
He was eventually dismissed by Kambhoj but that was one of the few happy moments for the CSK players tonight. Rahane came in for de Kock and started with a elegant on drive, followed by a casual flick over square leg for a six. Ravi Ashwin was again expensive and Narine made merry of this paltry target. Noor Ahmad hit the first ball to deprive Narine a fifty, but Rinku Singh came out to complete the game for Kolkata. A thrashing victory for KKR who triumph with almost ten overs to spare.
Jadeja to Rinku Singh, SIX, out of here!!
Noor Ahmad to Rinku Singh, FOUR, fired through onto the stumps, Rinku clears the front leg for another big heave. Gets a thickish inside edge that scrapes through for a boundary towards square leg
Noor Ahmad to Narine, out Bowled!! The purple cap holder adds to his tally! Narine b Noor Ahmad 44(18) [4s-2 6s-5]
Ashwin to Narine, SIX, another one! Narine probably has his dinner on microwave, in a hurry to finish this... A full delivery that was fired outside off, Narine gets under it and smokes it over long-off for six more
Ashwin to Narine, SIX, loopy, on a length and starts outside leg, spins onto the pads. Narine swipes it powerfully over square leg for a sixer!
Khaleel Ahmed to Narine, FOUR, to backward square leg
Khaleel Ahmed to Narine, SIX, pace off and full at the stumps, Narine was half expecting that. Clears the front leg and heaves it over cow corner for a maximum
Khaleel Ahmed to Rahane, SIX, to deep square leg.
Anshul Kamboj to Rahane, FOUR, to long-on. Skipper Rahane of the mark with a boundary.
Anshul Kamboj to de Kock, out Bowled!! de Kock b Anshul Kamboj 23(16) [6s-3]
Ashwin to Narine, SIX, to backward square leg
Ashwin to Narine, FOUR, to extra cover
Khaleel Ahmed to de Kock, SIX, de Kock is in the mood tonight.
Khaleel Ahmed to de Kock, SIX, that's de Kock's area.
Anshul Kamboj to de Kock, SIX, to deep mid-wicket
Khaleel Ahmed to Narine, SIX, to deep mid-wicket
Vaibhav Arora to Shivam Dube, FOUR, ends the innings well. There is man very straight behind the ump. And a long-off. But this is a half-volley and Shivam Dube has smashed it hard and wide of long-off to his left. CSK end on 103!
Harshit Rana to Shivam Dube, FOUR, finally something to cheer for CSK.
Vaibhav Arora to Noor Ahmad, out Caught by Varun Chakaravarthy!! Noor Ahmad c Varun Chakaravarthy b Vaibhav Arora 1(8)
Narine to Dhoni, out Lbw!! There were murmurs on UltraEdge when ball was next to bat. But there seemed to be a gap between bat and ball as well. The third ump takes multiple looks at this and then feels there's no bat. Dhoni lbw b Narine 1(4)
Varun Chakaravarthy to Hooda, out Caught by Vaibhav Arora!! Hooda c Vaibhav Arora b Varun Chakaravarthy 0(4)
Narine to Jadeja, out Caught by de Kock!! Jadeja c de Kock b Narine 0(2)
Harshit Rana to Ashwin, out Caught by Vaibhav Arora!! Ashwin c Vaibhav Arora b Harshit Rana 1(7)
Narine to Tripathi, out Bowled!! Cleaned up! Tripathi b Narine 16(22) [4s-1]
Varun Chakaravarthy to Shankar, out Caught by Moeen Ali!! Shankar's luck runs out. Moeen does not make a mistake. Shankar c Moeen Ali b Varun Chakaravarthy 29(21) [4s-2 6s-1]
Harshit Rana to Tripathi, FOUR, neatly done! 140.4ks short of length delivery, Tripathi waits for the ball to arrive and late cuts it fine, beating third man comfortably.
Moeen Ali to Shankar, SIX, just beats Ramandeep. Shankar has to win this match-up against Moeen. In fact both batters need to take on the offie.
Varun Chakaravarthy to Shankar, FOUR, back to back fours. Shankar knows Varun pretty well as they both play for TN.
Varun Chakaravarthy to Shankar, FOUR, to backward square leg
Harshit Rana to Ravindra, out Caught by Rahane!! Both openers gone! CSK in trouble. Rana strikes with his first ball. The pressure was on Rachin, he was on 4 off 8 and needed to get going. Ravindra c Rahane b Harshit Rana 4(9)
Moeen Ali to Conway, out Lbw!! Conway lbw b Moeen Ali 12(11) [4s-2]
Vaibhav Arora to Conway, FOUR, to long-off
Vaibhav Arora to Conway, FOUR, Conway is off and running. First time in the over Arora offers width and he pays the price. Conway leans nicely into the drive and creams it square of the wicket

We were looking to bat first as well. Quite a few occasions where we tried to chase it down and what we realised is that the wicket slows down a bit, so if you don't get a good start then the middle order comes under pressure. He has fractured something on his elbow, so he is ruled out of the tournament. It is important, we have lost too many matches and now it is important to do the basics right - have dot balls, take our catches.
A couple of games we lost by big margins, but otherwise it was about the small things - about one over going for 20 runs. Our batters are more authentic as batters, they won't slog everything. They just need to back their instincts. It is important to start well, get boundaries early on and try to get a couple of early wickets as well. Couple of changes for us - Tripathi comes in for Ruturaj, and Anshul Kambhoj in for Mukesh.
We'll bowl first. There were a lot of positives from the last game. We as a team played really well. It is about improving each game. This looks like a good wicket, won't change much. We are batting deep, so that's why we look to bowl first and chase things down. One change - Moeen Ali comes in for Spencer - Ajinkya Rahane.

Clear skies are expected, along with another pitch likely to become tougher for batting as the match progresses. In the last two games, CSK—chasing both times—struggled significantly more than the teams that batted first.
CSK lead KKR 19-10 and have won five of their last seven encounters. Interestingly, KKR have won two of their three IPL finals at this very venue.
Rachin Ravindra, Devon Conway, Rahul Tripathi, Shivam Dube, Vijay Shankar, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c&wk), R Ashwin, Noor Ahmad, Matheesha Pathirana, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Choudhary/Anshul Kamboj.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Sunil Narine, Ajinkya Rahane (c), Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Ramandeep Singh, Moeen Ali/Spencer Johnson, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy, Vaibhav Arora.
This is only the third instance of CSK losing four or more consecutive matches in an IPL season. The previous occasions were in 2010 — a year they went on to win the title — and in 2022, when they ended the season in 9th place.
Ravindra Jadeja has a bowling average of 21.98 in matches CSK win, which rises sharply to 49.34 in games they lose.
KKR boast a catching efficiency of 87.5% this season — the second-best among all teams. In contrast, CSK's catching efficiency is the second-worst, at just 67.6%.
