As the IPL 2025 season nears its end, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals face off in a contest that holds little more than pride. Both teams sit at the bottom of the table with six points each, and a loss here would all but confirm the infamous “wooden spoon” for the loser — a position no franchise wants to occupy.
This match at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium isn’t about playoff qualification anymore — that ship has long sailed for both sides. Instead, it’s a fight to finish above last place and possibly test a few new combinations ahead of the next season.

Rajasthan Royals will look back at their campaign with frustration, having let multiple winning opportunities slip through their fingers. Their decision to go with a predominantly Indian batting line-up backfired, with inconsistency plaguing their performances. While they’ve unearthed a promising talent in Vaibhav Suryavanshi, it hasn’t been enough to change their fortunes.
Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, have looked a shadow of their former selves. Despite sticking with their tried-and-tested formula early on, injuries — particularly to Ruturaj Gaikwad — and a lack of spark in the bowling department have derailed their season. Veterans like Ravindra Jadeja and R. Ashwin have struggled to make an impact, and their younger stars couldn’t fill the void. However, CSK have now begun looking toward the future, giving chances to emerging players like Rachin Ravindra and Rahul Tripathi.
Individually, there’s still a lot at stake. Players from both sides will be eager to leave a mark as the teams begin thinking about their 2026 plans. And while this match may be a dead rubber in the standings, personal milestones and reputations will still be on the line.
According to Simon Doull and Graeme Swann, the pitch looks excellent for batting. Square boundaries measure 63 meters and straight boundaries around 72 meters. While there’s a bit of rough and grass near the good-length area, the pitch is expected to play true — much like it did two nights ago — with little spin and plenty of scoring opportunities.
