Immediately following his early termination as an Indian cricket team assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar began working for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the middle of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). According to The Times of India, Nayar has joined KKR despite no formal announcements from either BCCI or KKR and he could coach his side during their match against Gujarat Titans at the Eden Gardens on Monday. Varun Chakravarthy posted a hint for his reunion with KKR through Instagram stories on Friday.

The BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, has not confirmed any dismissal information despite strong rumors about his termination. Saikia informed TimesofIndia.com he would provide both the details and a clear picture in the forthcoming one or two days period. Nayar will be able to return to the KKR dressing room after the Indian cricket board provides an official announcement about his situation.
The KKR management views Nayar with great respect and he commands widespread admiration throughout their dressing room. The replacement captain this season would include Nayar to the team according to the existing relationship between coach Chandrakant Pandit and captain Ajinkya Rahane. The appointment faces no opposition from anyone present in the organization. The entry of Nayar into KKR during mid-season creates several uncertainties about his situation.
