Gujarat Set 201-Run Target For RCB
In the first match of the Sunday doubleheader, GT’s openers failed to perform, with both Wriddhiman Saha and skipper Shubman Gill being dismissed early in the powerplay, leaving the team at 45/2 after 6.2 overs.
However, a remarkable 86-run partnership between Sai Sudharshan and Shahrukh Khan helped GT achieve a competitive score. Shahrukh Khan contributed a fine 58 off just 30 balls before being dismissed by a delivery from Siraj.
Sai Sudharshan, on the other hand, continued to anchor the innings for the home team, ensuring that last year’s finalists reached a respectable total.
Sudharshan’s impressive unbeaten 84, along with David Miller’s 26 not out, propelled GT to a total of 200/3 in their allotted 20 overs.
Glenn Maxwell’s inclusion in the starting lineup proved beneficial as the Australian all-rounder also managed to take a wicket, which would have boosted his confidence heading into the crucial phase of the match.
Will Jacks’ Hundred Gives RCB 3rd Win
Chasing a big target of 201, RCB openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis started hitting the ball out of the boundaries from the start to maintain the strike rate for the chase. However, skipper Faf du Plessis had to depart after a 12-ball 24 within the powerplay.
Virat Kohli continued to apply the pressure and kept putting runs on the scoreboard with Will Jacks at the other end. With both batters scoring at decent strike rates, RCB kept the GT bowlers under the heat as the duo stitched up a brilliant 166-run partnership till the end.
Kohli’s swashbuckling 70* along with Jacks’ 41-ball 100* made sure that RCB got another win in their bag. The win would give both the fans and players a new ray of hope that their side will be able to somehow creep into the playoff spots by maintaining the winning momentum.
