Gaikwad Leads By Example
Put to bat first, Chennai hadn’t expected the visitors to bowl first considering their humbling by RCB in the previous encounter. CSK openers Ajinkya Rahane and Ruturaj Gaikwad didn’t get off to a flying start as Rahane lost his wicket cheaply at just 9 runs courtesy of a Bhuvneshwar Kumar delivery.
Gaikwad continued his innings with full vigor and his 107-run partnership with New Zealand batter Daryll Mitchell steered CSK to a decent run rate in the middle.
Gaikwad continued to play a fiery knock after Daryll was dismissed at 52 runs on the night. Scoring at a strike rate above 150, Gaikwad’s captain’s knock of a 54-ball 98 eventually took his side to a competitive total of 212/3 in their 20 overs. The CSK skipper seems like a really good option for Team India with the T20 World Cup 2024 on the horizon as well.
MS Dhoni was welcomed at the Chepauk with a roar once again as he took the pitch for 4 deliveries. His 5-run cameo again proved to be a vital contribution to the team as he remains not out in this season of the IPL.
Playing against a side who are known to score big in the powerplays this season, Chennai had to score big to give themselves a good chance of taking home the 2 points on the night.
