RCB vs RR: Eliminator 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) witnessed Rajasthan Royals secure a knockout date with SunRisers Hyderabad as they secured a convincing X-wicket victory over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 22.

RCB Set 173-Run Target For RR

RCB, batting first, saw openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis attempt to set a solid foundation. Du Plessis was dismissed after scoring 17 runs, while Kohli continued through the powerplay, making a 24-ball 33 before being dismissed. This innings marked a significant milestone for Kohli, as he became the first batter in IPL history to reach 8000 runs.

Cameron Green contributed with a valuable 27-run cameo in the middle order. In-form Rajat Patidar was dropped on just 5 runs by Dhruv Jurel, a mistake that proved costly for Rajasthan as Patidar went on to score a brisk 34.

Finally, Mahipal Lomror and Dinesh Karthik guided RCB to a competitive total of 172/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, it was the Rajasthan Royals openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tom Kohler-Cadmore who were handed the task of chasing the average total of 173 on the night. While Jos Buttler’s replacement Kohler-Cadmore departed with just 20 runs, it was Yashasvi Jaiswal who sprung back to form and scored a 30-ball 45 on the night. He was later dismissed by Cameron Green in the 10th over.

Skipper Sanju Samson was also sent back cheaply on 17 runs as RCB started to get some momentum on the night. However, it was the duo of Riyan Parag and impact substitute Shimron Hetmyer who stitched up a 45-run partnership to get Rajasthan back into the game.

The duo eventually helped Rajasthan Royals set up a date with SunRisers Hyderabad in qualifier 2 at Chepauk to decide who will face 2-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the final of the Indian Premier League on May 26.
